Being the best brusher is more than just having the ‘perfect’ technique. Brushing is a skill that requires hours of practice and observation.
This practice plan was put together to help you understand:
- What is the right brushing position for your body?
- What does the footwork look like between open and closed?
- How do you prepare a proper on ice brushing practice?
- What exercises can you do to support your wish to improve your brushing?
- How do you know when to sweep? How can you become a smarter sweeper?
It's not just an educational opportunity teaching you the 'why' behind each of my techniques, but is also a step-by-step guide for you to follow to help you make long lasting changes in your position, technique and sweeping ability.

The Better Brushing Practice Plan includes 3 phases of on and off ice activities to help you progressively gain strength, comfort and understanding to become a better brusher.
What the Better Brushing Practice Plan provides:
- 6x on ice practice plans to help you become a better brusher; focusing on both technique and how to be a smart sweeper
- 6x small off ice workouts that can be completed in season to support the movement and strength needs of optimal brushing position
Who is it for? (EVERYONE)
- Beginner curlers looking to learn how to sweep; get a full kickstart over your fellow learn to curlers!
- Intermediate curlers looking to take their brushing to the next level and solidify their practice plan
- Elite curlers looking to improve their brushing foundation and find their edge over the competition.
How does it work?
- The program is organized into 3 phases. Each phase has a purpose to help you gain strength, confidence and understanding of not only how to sweep, but WHEN to sweep.
- At the end of each phase you will find keys to tell when you are ready to progress to the next phase

The final day of curling at Leaside this season will be Saturday April 18. There will be no opportunities for curling after that date until mid-September.
There are no more ice rentals available for the rest of the season.
To help keep the ice clean of dirt and debris, the following procedure must be followed to enter and exit the ice shed:
- Curling footwear (curling shoes or grippers) must be worn at all times when entering the ice shed. The ice shed should be entered and exited at the south door (by Sheet A) at all times.The north door (by Sheet H) should be used to exit the ice shed ONLY IN AN EMERGENCY! The need to use the washroom facilities does NOT constitute an emergency!
- In the lower corridor outside the men's and women's change rooms, the south door (near Sheet A) should be used to access the lounge on the main floor ONLY if you are wearing curling footwear. At all TIMES, if you are wearing outdoor footwear, the lower corridor MUST be exited ONLY via the north door (near Sheet H)!
Your sheet is ready for play when the numbers from the previous game are down. Please wait in the Lounge until your sheet is ready.
