This is an update regarding the State of Good Repair project that was planned at Leaside Curling Club for 2026 - 2027.
The original plan had the project broken down into two distinct phases:
The contractors have identified that an opportunity exists to more efficiently complete the work on the new slab: given that significant portions of the south wall will be removed during the course of its repair, this would provide access into the shed with bobcats, thereby allowing for easier removal of the existing slab.
The city and the contractors met with CP Rail just over a week ago and CP Rail has approved access to its property to do this work. As a result, the city is now planning to replace the slab and our refrigeration system this summer.
In past, we have started our plant on September 1 and started curling in mid-September. Given the new plans which have been presented to us by the city, we anticipate that the start of our season would be pushed back to sometime in October.
The contractors are developing its project plans as we speak. We are working with the city and contractors to allow them to start ASAP after we shut down this month.
We will keep you apprised on updates as they occur.
