Youth Leagues
Little Rocks (U12)
Little Rocks (U12) Mission at Leaside
We want to help kids discover and develop a love for curling. We will help them by making each practice fun and at a level challenge that engages them and wants them coming back for more. We want to show kids that they can be successful not only on the ice, but off as well. We will know we are successful when kids invite friends to participate because of how much they enjoy curling and parents are actively involve in creating a fun, supportive curling community.
The U12 coaches will be following Curling Canada’s RockStars Under 9 – Under 12 Curling Skill Development Program. We accept children ages 7 to 12. This year we will only be accepting 32 curlers with priority being given to this age group. If there is room, we will accept a few 6 year olds provided they turn 7 before the end of the 2026.
We practice Thursday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. We typically hold our first practice after Thanksgiving weekend and end at the TDSB March Break. Format: off-ice discussion, on-ice skills, game, hot chocolate with your teammates.
All curlers are required to wear clean indoor shoes (no slider or tape) or curling shoes with 2 grippers (while not throwing stones). If shoes have ever been worn outside, please have a coach check them before you go out on the ice. In accordance with Curling Canada guidelines, all U12 curlers are required to wear protective head gear. Wear warm, loose-fitting clothing (no jeans!) and gloves are recommended.
Regardless of knowledge or curling experience, parents and guardians of curlers are encouraged to participate in program supervision and coaching too! We need adults to assist with the on-ice instruction. In the lounge, we would love some parents to help in various off-ice areas. The program cannot run without our volunteer coaches and parents helping. Detailed lesson plans will be provided each week to help with both on and off ice activities.
Rowan's Law, which came into effect July 1, 2019, requires that all athletes under the age of 26, as well as parents (on behalf of athletes under the age of 18) and coaches, must sign off on a Concussion Awareness Resource and Concussion protocol.
If you have any questions regarding the Little Rocks (U12) program, please e-mail the Little Rocks (U12) Representative (Patty Yeomans) at [email protected]
Women's Leagues
Daytime Women
Our individual entry leagues provide a relaxed and fun environment where curlers will play on a number of different teams during the season.
Our team entry league allows curlers to play together all season against other teams of similar skill level based on performance (win/loss record) as the season progresses.
We also offer new curler and refresher clinics, and internal bonspiel events to help you develop your skills and experience the fun, camaraderie and competitive nature of the sport.
A brief description of each league is provided below,
1. Individual Entry Leagues
Monday afternoon - Play begins at 12:55 pm and ends no later than 3:10 pm.
Tuesday morning - Play begins at 9:45 am and ends no later than noon.
Tuesday afternoon - Play begins at 12:55 pm and ends no later than 3:10 pm.
Curlers are placed on teams based on their desired position. You may be asked to play a different position as the number of entries requires. Every effort is made to balance teams.
There are 3 draws over the course of the season. You will be placed on a different team each draw. Prizes are awarded to the top teams each draw.
When you are not able to play, it is your responsibility to find a replacement to play in your absence. Most of the Women’s leagues have a Spare Coordinator, who will arrange a spare for you. Requesting spares is done online.
2. Thursday Team Entry League
This is a league where you play with the same team all season. Games are played at two draw times and play will alternate from week to week:
Morning games begin at 9:45 am and end no later than noon.
Afternoon games begin at 12:55 pm and end no later than 3:10 pm.
Teams are divided into flights and placement is based on their performance in the previous draw. There are a number of round robin draws over the course of the season. Teams move between flights at the end of each draw based on their round robin performance. The number of flights and draws depends on the number of teams entered. New teams are placed in the bottom flight to start the season.
Curlers usually enter as a team. Teams require a minimum of four members (5 person teams are allowed).
New to the league, looking for new players or looking for a new team? If you have less than four members, the league conveners will help you find appropriate team members (teams require 3 members to start the season). If you are looking to join a team, the league conveners will attempt to place you on a team. Placement on a team is not guaranteed.
When not able to play, it is your responsibility to inform your skip and to find a spare to play in your absence.
Men's Leagues
Daytime Men
Monday mornings, 9:30 a.m. - individual entry - tag draw
Wednesday afternoon, 12:45 pm - individual entry - tag draw
Friday mornings, 9:30 a.m. - individual entry - tag draw
Each section operates as a tag draw, and is open to individual entry for men. Please note that members are eligible to enroll in a maximum of 2 of the 3 daytime sections.
Most curlers generally play twice per week, to maximize their opportunity to accumulate points towards the play-offs in April. This is a very social league with an important aspect being the camaraderie our curlers share both on and off of the ice. Indeed, some members of this league continue that camaraderie into the summer on the golf course. It's a wonderful way to enjoy winter with a little exercise and companionship.
A small levy is charged to cover prizes for the Christmas and Year End luncheons; as well, there is an additional small levy to cover coffee/hot chocolate after each game.
No curling experience? That's OK -- you can sign up for classes that will show you the ropes. This is the best deal in town!
Mixed and Open Leagues
Weekend Mixed
Generally the Mixed Section fills quickly, and often there is a waiting list to join the league. You can sign-up as an individual, pair or full team. Please register early if you are new to the Mixed Section or are a returning member.
The weekend Mixed Sections alternates games between Friday @ 6:45 pm; Friday at 9:00 pm; Sunday at 12:30 pm; and Sunday at 2:45 pm. A team is comprised of two men and two women, who must alternate positions.
Teams are allocated to one of 8 flights, based on the level of competition. At the completion of each draw (a draw consists of 7 games), teams change flights depending on performance. All teams advance to a playoff round and are guaranteed two games in the playoffs.
